Our History
Frank Celano Started his love for plants with his dad in his early teens growing and nurturing the biggest vegetable garden in his community. That love grew into working summers at a local garden center/Landscape firm where Frank learned from his mentor Bill Wagonblast who was a landscape architect for a large firm in Central Jersey, That combined with His continuing education at Rutgers After a couple of summers Frank Decided it was time to start his own landscape firm and in 1982 Frank and his then brother in law Steve Whitfield started what is now General Landscaping. His brother-in-law moved on the following year to his real passion in the building field and Frank working out of his dad’s garage continued to grow and market the business. Frank Got married in 1986 and the following year Frank and His wife Susan opened their 1st Garden center and landscape office. The property which they rented was only 800 sq ft of retail and office space and less than an acre for plant stock The business continued to grow and in 1995 they purchased an old bank on 3 acres with over 5000sq ft of retail space which they converted and would name Country Gardens. Since then, the company acquired more land and built several greenhouses and now operates on nearly 5 acres and has a fleet of over 20 trucks to serve its over 3000 customers. The 3 boys now all work in various aspects of the business and thanks to over 40 talented and loyal employees the company continues to grow and prosper. Emergence for one of the most sought-after and highly awarded landscape design companies in the country. We thank our loyal and gracious customers for our continued growth and success.
